Mayor Susan Renda has lived in the Village of Moreland Hills since 1993. She and her husband, Mike, have been married since 1978. They have two grown children, Matthew and Emily, a daughter-in-law, Jessica, and a grandson, Luke. A graduate of Kent State University, Susan earned a PhD in Audiology. She is a Cleveland Indians fan, an avid reader and loves to travel.
Prior to being elected as mayor in 2007, she served on Village Council for six years, including three years as Council President. She worked on all six Council Committees but concentrated her time and attention on the Finance Committee. While on Council she also took a leadership role in initiating the Village Green Space Program and was instrumental in acquiring the land for the Village Park and Nature Preserve, Forest Ridge.
Mayor Renda is fiscally conservative and believes in planning for the future. Therefore the Village consistently updates its five-year capital budget plan, has an adequate “rainy day fund” and recently has set up an equipment replacement fund. The Village government continues to discuss regional cooperation and shared services with other communities in an effort to save money where practicable. The Village works with the Engineer to stretch infrastructure dollars for needed repairs and to make certain there are adequate funds to keep our roads safe. We continue to apply for grants from the state and federal governments for infrastructure needs.
Mayor Renda is also passionate about protecting the environment. The Village has improved its recycling program, set aside nearly 150 acres for parks and passive green space. Furthermore, it has torn down an abandoned BP Station, cleaned up the contamination and turned the space into Veterans’ Gateway Park. The Village Government continues to work on effective ways to communicate with residents through a monthly newsletter, signage and Code Red telephone calling services.
Mayor Renda holds an “Open Door” drop-in period on the first Tuesday of every month from 11am to 4pm should you have any questions or concerns you would like to discuss in person. If you would like to meet at another time call Sherri at 440.248.1188 to schedule an appointment or email Mayor Renda at firstname.lastname@example.org.
