Tree Cutting Ordinance
At the May 9, 2018 Council Meeting, the Village passed Ordinance 2018-10, which modified our Codified Ordinances as they pertain to tree removal. The two most notable changes are:
The size of healthy trees which may be removed without obtaining a specific tree removal permit has been
reduced
from 24” at breast height to
8”
at breast height. As in the past,
no more than four (4)
healthy trees of the specified size may be removed without a permit.
Requirements for the removal of nuisance trees as defined in new Section 521.15 have been added.

Anyone wishing to remove trees should first contact the Building Department and schedule a time for an inspector to visit the site to ensure compliance with the Code.
Please note
: All tree contractors
MUST register
with the Village, and any tree removal involving the use of large trucks, cranes, etc. requires a $150 road damage fee be paid for each job BEFORE work commences, whether a separate tree removal permit is needed or not. Failure to register or pay the required road fee prior to beginning work will result in the doubling of all fees per Sections 1313.14 and 1331.09 of the Codified Ordinances of the Village of Moreland Hills.
