School Season Safety Reminders

The Police Chief would like to remind residents that the holidays have passed and school is back in session. Here are a few tips to help ensure safety in our school zones and traffic safety in general:
  • Be mindful of pedestrians and bus traffic
  • Remember, children do not always follow the rules of the road
  • Children may enter the street from between two cars or walk into an intersection before the light changes
  • Refrain from using your cell phone, or other device, especially when driving in school zones or around children
  • Follow posted speed limits
  • Do not impede traffic by dropping children off in the street
  • Always make sure the occupants of your vehicle are wearing seat belts
  • Watch buses displaying flashing red lights; loading and unloading children
  • A bus driver’s number one interest is your child’s safety. Children should be on their best behavior while traveling on the school bus
  • Practice extra caution in bad weather

Remember: Kids are NOT adults, therefore it is up to drivers to compensate for these differences!!
