Simple Recycling Program

5/3/2016
The Village has signed an agreement with Simple Recycling for the collection of “soft materials” beginning the week of May 2nd.  Simple Recycling will send all the residents a brochure in the mail informing them of their program.  This service will be provided at no cost to the Village and does not replace our normal recycling program.

The term “soft recyclable” means items of an individual weight less than fifty (50) pounds and can be carried by one person.  Soft Recyclables include primarily men’s, women’s and children’s clothing as well as items such as jewelry, shoes, purses, hats, toys, pictures, mirrors, blankets, drapes and curtains, pillows, rags, sewing scraps, sleeping bags, small furniture, small appliances, irons, radios and audio equipment, TVs and video equipment, cameras, lamps, hairdryers, tools, toaster, microwaves, coffee makers, computers and household or consumer electronics, silverware, dishes, pots and pans, glasses and the like.

Items placed at the curb for Simple Recycling to pick up cannot be used as a tax deduction; if you want the tax deduction, they absolutely encourage you to donate those items.  Simple Recycling is simply trying to cut down on the 85% of clothing that still ends up in landfills because they are thrown away instead of donated.

Pick up days will run concurrent with your normal rubbish/recycling pick up day.  Simple Recycling will provide each resident with bags to put your materials in and stickers to put on larger items, to be put curbside for collection.  When your items are picked-up, they will leave behind the same amount of empty bags for your use the following week.  Feel free to call them with any questions or to request an additional amount of bags at any time.
